What Are Ethics?

When we started ethix, we were inspired to help make a change in the world by creating a platform that empowers people. We felt that by giving customers the opportunity to make ethical choices, people would become more aware of the direct impact they can have on the world.

With this line of thinking, one may ask - what exactly are ethics? And more crucially, why is having the right ethics so important?

At its simplest, ethics is a concern about something or someone other than ourselves and our own desires or self-interests. In essence, ethics is a system of moral principles that affect how people make decisions and govern their lives.

The term is derived from the Greek word ethos which can mean custom, habit, character or disposition.

At the heart of ethics are the integrity and values of the individual. Established through various influences that include one's upbringing, life experiences, religious or community values, ethics help us navigate the world and give us a baseline for understanding the concepts of right and wrong.

Ethics covers the following dilemmas:

  • how to live a good life
  • our rights and responsibilities
  • the language of right and wrong
  • moral decisions - what is good and bad?

Ethical principles are at the core of our business. A
focus on the way in which products are produced throughout the supply chain, ensuring that all participants involved are safe and treated fairly, is something that drives us. Improving environmental and social impacts is what inspires us to help make change in the world, one day at a time.

Ethical Sourcing has been a big topic for a number of years and, luckily, it's become more important than ever to consumers worldwide.

recent study by GT Nexus, a cloud supply chain platform provider, showed there is a very high demand in the U.S. for ethically and sustainably sourced products and significant concern about ethical and responsible production. A quarter of consumers said they actively sought sourcing origin information when they make purchases, and were willing to pay more to ensure ethical provenance.

When sourcing products, we feel it is crucially important
to support and acknowledge all proper steps to treat people, and the environment, properly.

According to the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (CIPS), ethical sourcing also means the procurement process respects international standards against criminal conduct, human rights and environmental abuses, and responds to these issues immediately if identified.

We hope that you'll join us on this journey. Let's create a better world together.
